AmeriCorps

Seedco's AmeriCorps*State members are a group of dedicated individuals who have committed one year to serving low-income families throughout New York City.

In this service, our AmeriCorps members perform the following critical functions:
  • Connect clients to benefits and work supports, such as food stamps and Medicaid, through Seedco's Food Card Access Program(FCAP)/EarnBenefits program
  • Manage our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites, which provide free tax preparation for thousands of low-income families
  • Recruit volunteers for one-day service events and to serve at partner community organizations
  • Facilitate financial education workshops for clients on budgeting, credit, financial scams and more
  • Perform outreach and raise awareness about services offered at local community organizations
The AmeriCorps program also provides members with professional development opportunities. Members work alongside experienced nonprofit practitioners and attend staff meetings and trainings. Members participate in regular trainings and workshops to build their professional skills in areas such as public speaking, resume writing and job interviewing.
