Seedco Expands Health Care Access Efforts in Maryland

In July 2017, Seedco was awarded a $519,000 grant by the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange to expand its valuable work providing consumer healthcare access to residents Maryland.  The new grant expands Seedco’s service area from the seven counties of the Upper Eastern Shore to include three additional counties considered to make up the Southern Maryland Region.  These counties include Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s.  Seedco now operates in ten counties and provides health care enrollment services in two of the program’s eight regions.

Since 2013, Seedco has led efforts to increase healthcare access in Maryland with key partners such as the Eastern Shore AHEC, Triangle Health Alliance, and West Cecil Health Center. Since then, Seedco and its partners have collectively facilitated over 20,000 enrollments into affordable coverage since the program began.  The share of residents without coverage in the 1st District Congressional District, which encompasses all of Seedco’s delivery area, fell from nearly 9 percent in 2013 to just over 4 percent two years later — the largest drop in the state.  Adding the Southern Region to its portfolio will enable Seedco and is partners will continue to reach the most vulnerable uninsured people with public education and culturally-sensitive in-person enrollment. Seedco is honored to continue this important work on behalf of Maryland communities.
